King Philip was the leader of the Wampanoag people. He lived on Mt. Hope and his Indian name was Metacomet. He was the 2nd son of the great leader Massasoit, who helped the Pilgrims survive their first year in America. Philip became leader of the Wampanoag after his older brother, Alexander, died mysteriously. When the Native Americans no longer had enough land and resources to support themselves, Philip led them in a war against the colonists.
